Introduction to the Canon 5D Mark II/50D, Vol. 2: Advanced TopicsReviewsThis is a good video, however I think the instructor is not what I consider to be a great instructor. Moves to quickly, (talks too fast). It is still worth watching as I have not found a better video at this time. I was looking for a product that would help improve my photography skills and teach me more than just the basics of working the camera. There was much I didn't really understand about lighting and photographic composition that was covered here and it was presently clearly and in easy to understand terms. I really am getting the most out of my camera now and I highly recommend this DVD. It was really helpful and my pictures are turning out much better! Average Rating:![]() |

Introduction to the Canon 5D Mark II ; Volume 1: Basic ControlsReviewsThe 5d Mark II was my first introduction to Canon cameras and frankly I was a little intimidated as there was much I was unfamiliar with and didn't wish to screw it all up. Voila! This introduction was just what I needed to familiarize myself with the controls and provide me the knowledge to begin enjoying the camera. Learning by watching how it's done eliminates so much guesswork and provides considerable confidence. It is basic, but learning the basics is an absolute necessity. Basic controls: means if you've never used a Canon before but decided to buy a semi-pro camera you might be interested in this DVD. If you're familiar with Canon, like I was, don't waste your money. The information is super obvious and doesn't cover 1/2 of the info available in the user's manual. It wasn't a lot of money to purchase this DVD, but you could use your money towards something far more helpful. I bought this DVD and sat down with camera in hand while viewing it and I learned more from this video that I ever imagined I could. It is so well done and easy to follow explanations of the camera's controls. You will quickly learn how to set the controls to get the most out of this amazing camera. I give it five stars because I don't think you will find any thing that will help you more than this DVD. It will be the best $20 you ever spent to help you with this camera! I've owned a quite a few of the Canon EOS digital cameras and had great results so moving up to the 5D Mk II was not a unique experience for me but on a flight to Singapore I went through the Volume 1 Basic Controls DVD and learned a lot. The instruction is clear and well paced. Looking forward to Volume 2. The best DVD on 5D Mk II to date, forget "Elite Video," (lacks depth - amateur), or "A Short Course.." (Still a great overall guide - but lacks 5D Mk II depth). "Blue Crane Digital" provides more insights that are hands-on tools you will use in the field. Average Rating:![]() |

Take great pictures with your Canon 5D Mark II! All you need is this training DVD and about 90 minutes, and you'll have the knowledge and the confidence to create the images you want. The topics are arranged in chapters, so you can move at your own pace, and return later to individual subjects... |

Canon EOS 5d Training Dvds 1 & 2ReviewsGentlemen: I want to thank you for your DVD on the Canon 5D. I am an old-school film boy who has shot Canons for about 30 years. My first step into digital was tentative with a 10D. I just got the 5D, and it is great. Your hands-on, and visual, training was enjoyable. Much of it I knew, but there were nuggets to pull out of your project. For an average photographer, your DVD would be invaluable. I wrote the Complete Idiot's Guide to Photography and the Pocket Idiot's Guide to Photography for Alpha (Simon & Schuster). My reason for writing is to thank you for providing what you promised. It is often missing in the present world of publishing. I have written 98 books and am a book producer working with major publishers, so I am talking from experience. You guys are good, and I will tell my contacts of your products. Again, thank you. Dodge March 2007 R. Dodge Woodson, President Lone Wolf Enterprises, Ltd. Canon LP-E6 Battery Pack for Canon 5D Mark II Digital SLRReviewsWhile the list price verges on the absurd, this battery does deliver as advertised and seems to me to have much longer life on a charge than the batteries I've been using with my Canon 5D. Amazon's prices on this item have been very competitive. What's to review? This is a factory original battery, so it performs exactly as expected. I am extremely happy with the price, 1/2 of what I could find it for locally. Locally however is in Canada, and since Amazon won't ship this to Canada, I had to ship it to my sister and have it re-shipped. Still, price worth the hassle. Amazon, when is your .ca store going to start carrying the same line of products? Or, when will you start shipping electronics to Canada, I don't care about the warranty. I purchased two of these batteries to use with my canon 7D. At first I had considered buying off brand batteries due to the lower prices but after learning that such batteries were unable to relay information to the camera regarding how much power was left in the battery I decided to play it safe and stick to the canon brand LP-E6. I have used these batteries regularly as it extends my shooting times substantially without having to wait to charge my battery, I would recommend using this specific battery to anyone working in the photography field or looking to get serious abut their work. How do you review a battery? I charged it and it works. yeaaa. It works as any aftermarket battery with the same specs will work. Only difference is, you pay 5 to 6 times more for this one. The "reporting" feature is only there to force you to buy this battery, over the 3rd party suppliers that do not have that reporting chip. My Canon 40D shows the battery life, and it works with all 3rd party supplied batteries as well. Shame on Canon for ripping off loyal customers. They are starting to act like Apple. I took 2 stars off because of the price gouging. Average Rating:![]() |

Opteka RC-4 Wireless Remote Control for Canon EOS Digital Rebel XT, XTi, XSi, T1i, T2i, 7D & 5D Mark II Digital SLR Cameras (Canon RC-1 Replacement)ReviewsThis remote is out-of-the-box-point-and-click great! It's a bit larger than the Canon brand though. The range is as promoted ... about 15 feet. I can't comment about the battery life as yet because I've been using it for a short while now. I use it with my Rebel XTi. As previously noted the remote works with my Canon EOS T1i. With the remote capability selected on the camera, the "s" button takes an instant picture...The "2s" button takes a two second delayed picture. When in Movie mode on the camera, the "s" button again takes an instant picture and the "2s" button starts recording a video clip. Pressing "2s" again during movie clip will stop the movie recording. As yet, I have found no functionality for the W & T buttons. Overall, the remote does what it is supposed to and is a nice- inexpensive addition to the camera. Wow, this worked right out of the box with my 5D Mark II. It's small and easy to use. I prefer it over the Canon version. I bought two, one for each camera bag. For the Canon T1i this remote control is a handy little device for still photos and videos! The remote functions using the Single Shot (S) and 2 Second Timer (2S) modes, for Video/Move mode press "2S" button start or stop the movie. Other buttons on remote are for a standard video camera. AutoFocus (AF) and Auto Exposure Bracketing (AEB) both work with this remote. If you're standing behind camera point the remote towards the right side of the camera or point directly over the top of the camera. For still photos, the camera's "Drive Setting" must be on "Self-timer/Remote Control" as described on Page 194 of the Canon T1i manual. For videos/movies, set the camera "Remote" setting to "Enable" in the Movie menu's settings since the factory default on tis camera has the remote set to "Disabled". It is smaller and handy than I expected. It fits my pocket - by size and price. 1. It uses a Cr2025 battery 2. It works only on the front and side of the camera. Not from the back. It covers the immediate 180 degrees in front of camera. (I heard that you can use a mirror to reflect the infrared, this way you may be able to work from behind too. I was amazed that it works from the side, so I don't have to buy a shutter release to take photos from behind) 3. Battery life is yet to be seen. I started using it today. 4. It is smaller and handy than I expected. It fits my pocket - by size and price. 5. Another post shows that it works upto 15ft. 6. From the remote to the sensor if you draw a line, there should not be any obstacles. If you put a plastic piece in front of remote, the remote will not work. It is an amazing product at cheap price. Need to see how durable it is. Average Rating:![]() |

Zeikos ZE-FLK58 58mm Multi-Coated 3 Piece Filter Kit (UV-CPL-FLD)ReviewsI am so happy with this filter set, but do recognize that at ten bucks, these aren't the best performing filters with the most durable construction. Still, I highly recommend them, and am very happy with their performance...especially considering their cost! To start off with, I am well aware that most serious photographers would probably benefit from getting higher-end filters from bigger brands than Zeikos (i.e. Hoya, B+W), especially if they have premium glass. That being said, I'm also aware many people are on tight budgets- myself included - and it sometimes seems excessive to spend so much on expensive filters, especially if you are new to photography. This is a great solution to someone interested in learning more about what effects various filters can have. CONSTRUCTION These filters are cheap, and they feel cheap/weak, too. That was fine for me since I knew for ten bucks that was to be expected. I don't expect these to last forever, its more to get my feet wet with filters than any long term investment. For roughly three dollars a filter, I'm very happy with my purchase, even if these are cheaply made as the other reviewers have noted. AUTOFOCUSING I noticed from my personal experience when I use the filters with the kit lens that came w/ my Canon Rebel, the 18-55mm IS, auto-focus is fine. With my cheap telephoto, however (the 75-300 non-IS, non-USM), auto-focus was very non-responsive. This was in broad daylight, so I don't think it was an issue of too little light. (If someone knows why this is the case, feel free to let me know!) Either way, aside from the strange focusing w/ my telephoto, I was VERY happy with the performance on my other lenses. QUALITY Image quality was fine (for the most part), and the filters - especially the polarizer - without a doubt made a very noticeable difference. I will try to upload images to illustrate this point. I must note, however, that as of now I have only tried this on relatively cheap lenses...if one were to use this on expensive, high-quality lenses, there might be a more noticeable degredation of quality from these filters. My experiences, however, have been positive. CONCLUSIONS My assumption is, if you're seriously considering an intro filter set for ten dollars in the first place, you probably will be happy with this set! More likely than not, you're going to benefit from trying these out, and worse comes to worst, you one day upgrade to a better set. O personally think that for the price, this is a very worthwhile purchase. I would love to review this product but am still waiting on the shipment of my order. I have been waiting since 31 January 10. It would have been nice to hear if it was a back order item or maybe the pony express horse was sick or whatever. Don't buy from this company if you need it quick! The quality of the filter wasn't so good. I can even see a small scratch on the UV filter through my eye. But with the low price, what can you expect? At least it help protect my investment of the more pricey lens, and it doesn't seen to effect the quality of the picture. If I were a professional, I could maybe justify paying a lot more for filters. But I am not. I like to take pictures as a hobby. These are great for photographers like me. They come individually wrapped with a cool little leather storage case and seem to be really well made. I take really good care of my things so I see no reason why these shouldn't last for a long time. I'm fairly new to photography, so I bought these just to try out some filters. They're ok. The threading on the UV filter on mine wasn't the greatest. It stays on, but it doesn't tighten, so it's kind of annoying when I try to focus on my subject because the filter keeps moving around. All-in-all they aren't bad if you just want to try something out. I didn't have any problems with the image quality of my photos. Average Rating:![]() |

Canon Digital Rebel XSi Canon EOS Rebel T1i Canon Rebel XS XTi XT Canon EOS 50D 40D 30D 20D 5D SLR Camera Bag Message BagReviewsI could not decide between this product (the "Message Bag") and the Canon 2400 SLR Gadget Bag (the "Gadget Bag"), so I bought them both. Price was not a controlling factor since each is about $35.00. Upon arrival, I found that both bags were well constructed, well padded, and each included lots of moveable dividers for configuring the inside. Of the two, the Message Bag is, perhaps, better looking due to its slim design and NavyBlue accent. However, after using both, I much prefer the Gadget Bag due to its superior design and utility. For example, both bags have a flip-up cover held down by two front clips. With the Gadget Bag, opening the flip-up cover reveals the bag's interior. With the Message Bag, opening the flip-up cover reveals a zipper which must then be opened to reach the bag's interior. Over time I found this seemingly minor inconvenience to be cumbersome and annoying. I have a Canon EOS Rebel T1i with two lenses and several filters. I keep one lens attached to the camera body and have the other in a lens case. The wider/shallower Gadget bag accomodates this setup better than the Message Bag. The taller/slimmer design of the Message Bag makes a tighter fit for the equipment and the top does not fully open (due to the zipper) so it is more difficult to get equipment in and out of the bag. Also, the Gadget Bag has a better design for dealing with accessories. I especially like the side bags which are great for filters, cleaning kits, charger, etc. I kept the Gadget Bag and gave the Message Bag to my son-in-law (who has equipment similar to mine). After a short time, he gave up on the Message Bag and bought a Gadget Bag which he much prefers. I'm not saying that the Message Bag is not a good product -- it is serviceable and attractive. I am saying that there are other options which, in my opinion, work better. Average Rating:![]() |

Canon EOS 5D Mark II Digital Field GuideReviewsThis is my third purchase of a Field Guide product as I have upgraded digital cameras. This book is a very complete guide on what some of the additional features, that we sometimes don't get a chance or remember how to use. This book helps to explain and expand how to use the features from the mfg's manual. HIghly recommended from me. I have tried to follow this book to achieve certain ends such as focus lock. I find the explanation unhelpful. For instance, he says that the focus point will light red and on mine it doesn't - due to some other setting. He tries to give step by srep directions, but the attempts are perfunctory and I am left hanging if my results don't match his. Finally, he gives little lectures on aspects of photography. In essence, the book just gives perfunctory "to do" lists that easily break, mixed in with lectures on the basics of photography. Note: I occasionally get feedback that I too critical in my reviews. People don't like to be waked up. But I have learned to look at the critical comments on products as more valuable many times than the gushers. Here''s why: If you want to be really good at anything, you better get friendly with criticism, without being discouraged by its negative aspect. A really good exercise is to deliberately look at both sides of any issue, like how good a product is. Not a perfunctory look at both sides, but a real bath in "two sides awareness." As far as this book goes, the author can look at the criticisms, fix the shortcomings, and create a much better product. He can't do that with positive reviews, often, because most times they are "feel good" episodes: the positive reviewer is in love with how he "feels" rather than the reality of the product. That's the history of the world, and Amazon's truly revolutionary web site unwinds that to an extent. I purchased the Canon 5D Mark II and immediately purchased this book. Have read through 2.5 chapters when I remembered that the camera could do video, so I jumped to Chapter 8 and read all about how to set up resolution and frame rate to sound recording and Steadicam, but no place has the book told me what buttons to push to be able to record videos. The result is I spent all afternoon playing and pushing buttons trying to figure our how to do videos, and somehow managed to take a few seconds...so the result is I am giving the book four stars. The Canon 5D Mk II Field Guide is an excellent book that offers extensive information about this camera and its many features. The layout makes it easy to read and find information and it is written to meet the needs of all levels of photographers. This book also serves as a practical photography guide by giving dozens of illustrated examples on how to best make use of this camera's many advanced features, including extensive sections on video, lenses and lighting. This book is highly recommended for anyone who owns or is considering buying the 5D Mk II. Most of the time I don't read books on how to use the camera because they are complicated and make things more confusing than they need to be. This book was full of photographs, had easy to use intructions and actually made it fun to learn more about my camera. I would highly recommmend this book to anyone with this camera from beginner to advanced. Average Rating:![]() |

Magic Lantern Guides: Canon EOS 5D Mark IIReviewsThis was the only non Canon guide available when I bought my camera in 2009. It is just terrible, hardly any more help than the users manual provided with the camera. Magic Lantern Guides are never very useful, this one is particularly poor. I am waiting for a guide by Busch and published by Thompson Technology. The publisher keeps putting off the availability date so I don't know if or when it will actually become available. Give the Magic Lantern guide a pass, unless you just want to read the Canon Manual in larger print.Magic Lantern Guides: Canon EOS 5D Mark II If your camera has a Magic Lantern Guide available for it, GET IT! There is no better reference, no easier or more complete tool for the new sophisticated digitals than this series. The Pro's buy them. Why shouldn't you? BE the camera. The Magic Lantern Guide can help make that reality come true! If you want to learn how to put the 5D Mark ii to work for you then buy this informative book. I was pretty familiar with the 5D and happy with the photographs taken with it but still had questions as to "what this was for" and "whether I should set this feature to a yes or to a no" and Brian McLernon's book answered all of my questions, seriously every single one of them. I couldn't put the book down and now after finishing it I can't wait to take my next set of pictures with the information I learned. I read all books with a great deal of detail and am disappointed much of the time with only picking up a couple of bits of information after finishing the book, but this Brian McLernon's book is just the opposite with page after page of clearly communicated information on how to set the camera up to capture the images you set out to get. I also like reasonable size of book enabling me to toss in my camera bag available reference as needed. If I had one wish it would be that the sample photographs in the book were less mundane and more artistic. The pictures are nearly as good as the content. Brice Bowman [...] I find the manual very informative, illustations are great, and easy to use. I highly recommend it. I picked up this guide to help me (a hobby-photographer) get the most out of his new Canon EOS 5D-Mark 2 camera. Sure, Canon sells it with a manual. I already know what most of the camera modes are for. I know to set autofocus, how to adjust the aperture, and even take movies with the camera already. What I was looking for was a book that would teach me more about what the camera could do, including some insider secrets and tips. Instead, the book is pretty much just a well-written manual about the camera itself. Occasionally the author offers a tip or two, but so much of the book is general enough it might able to be recycled for another guide for another (similar) camera. I didn't find anything wrong with the content or think it was wrong. It's just that what I got out of it wasn't as much as I had hoped. This book will be great for someone who wants a more carefully written manual than what Canon provides. If you want something to help your photography that can tell you what to do on your specific model, this book won't be your primary source. In hindsight, more practice and face time with a professional photographer might have been a better recipe for me. Average Rating:![]() |

Canon EOS 5D Mark II CheatSheetReviewsI liked cheat sheets in school and now I like them as an adult! It is overpriced for a laminated sheet but you're paying for the content and convenience. A must have accessory for your camera bag and compared to the price of the camera... a steal! P.S. I love my camera!!!! Canon EOS 5D Mark II 21.1MP Full Frame CMOS Digital SLR Camera (Body Only). If your memory is as bad as mine, you'll appreciate this handy cheat sheet. It's clearly organized and easy to use. It's plastic coated for durability. My only caveat: I wish it folded one more time to make it easier to store in my camera bag. Bert's cheatsheets are great. I owned one for five different Canon EOS systems. They are also available for Canon and Nikon flash units. They are great for sticking in the camera bag and are indispensable when you have a need for a specific feature that you hardly ever use. The cheatsheets are coated in heavy duty plastic; I have never managed to destroy one. Water will wipe off.
