I am not a wide angle guy. My favorite lens is 35 cron - 50 noct and 75 lux. I also have M6TTL .8X which I really love due to its magnification. With it, now my M8, which has .58X mag, becomes almost identical with my previous M6TTL. It also help me focus better with my 50 Noctilux f/1.0.

Several reviews of the Panasonic camera indicated the battery had a relatively short life span, two hours. So since I sometimes spend more than that time with the grandchildren, it seemed prudent to get the extra. It charges in two hours and is small enough to take little room in a camera bag or pocket. Absolutely stellar.

I bought this as a spare battery for my Panasonic Lumix DMC-FZ35 based on other recommendations. Seems to be doing the job just fine. Good battery life and nicely priced.

Excellent product. I was very apprehensive about buying this product because it was so much cheaper than others on the market. But after shooting hundreds of pictures without a problem I was sold on the battery.

Works with out any problems with Panasonic FZ35. Seemed to charge in the same ammount of time as the original pansonnic battery. Took on weekend outing and used camera with this battery stayed working the whole time without recharging. Would buy again.

So far so good in my new Panasonic Lumix DMC FZ35. The price seems too good to be true with better specs than the original Panasonic battery that's also Chinese. Time will tell.

Leica D-Lux 4 Digital Camera (Black) Leica D-Lux 4 Digital Camera (Black)

Reviews

Not much of a review here -- more like a report. I bought this for a foreigner who was visiting and noticed the great price from Amazon. He said it was much more expensive in his country, but the camera had a great reputation and was a highly desired item in Lower Slabovia. From the few photos he took while testing it out here, we could see it was performing far above the average digital point-and-shoot. But beyond that, I can't say much.

Leica D-Lux 4 is a sweet spot camera with all the style and technical prowess one would expect from Leica optics. Tight, compact and technically superior to run-of-mill cameras. What a deal for me.

This camera delivers a crisp true picture. Maybe a little expensive but you certainly get your moneys worth with this product. Well made, easy to carry. Good family camera.

I wanted to upgrade my digital camera (a Casio point and shoot I got as a gift). After agonizing about which DSLR to buy (Canon 7D, Nikon 300S?) and lenses for those, I just went for this camera. (I'll still get a DSLR). This is one AMAZING camera right out of the box. It is easy to use, and very easy to ALWAYS have with you. Now I realize that I am taking shots that I would never get with the bigger cameras for a couple reasons. One, I just wouldn't have them with me. Two, holding a larger camera would be impossible in situations like street photography, shots in restaurants, even at home when a larger camera makes everyone sit up and think "photo in progress." It's totally unobtrusive, and looks like a dinky little point and shoot. Surprise, surprise. It is capable of taking beautiful images in several formats, sizes, low light, macro, etc. A question people might have is "Why the Leica"? Well, because it's a Leica, and I have read in several places that the software (specifically the color and B & W menu options) is customized. I am very glad I bought this particular camera. Also, when I bought it (check the Leica web site) the warranty was extended for three years. Finally, the bottom line. If you search the web, or search Flickr for the Leica D LUX 4 group photos you can see what this camera is capable of doing. That's what the gear is all about anyway- a tool to make photographs.

I once read a review which the comment was stated: "every camera is a compromise". No truer words. I currently have a Nikon D200 and was looking to having a feature-laden small camera easy to take on trips. This camera gave me exactly what I was looking for. The images and features are exceptional. The only complaint I have is as a result of my own new-found preference - I really miss having that view finder up to my eye. I wish now that I had gotten a Nikon D90 which would be only a little larger and would have fit in with all my Nikon gear. Again, I can't take away anything from this camera. It's a gem which I'll keep. As a suggestion, for youself, do a little more thinking than I did as to your own personal needs.

The compact nature of the D-Lux 4 means it can be with you all the time. But despite its compact size, it offers top Leica quality and gives the photographer plenty of artistic freedom. The D-Lux 4 is ideal, whether for subjects composed with lots of forethought or for spontaneous reportage.

Leica Leather Carry Case for the D-LUX 4 Digital Camera, Brown Leica Leather Carry Case for the D-LUX 4 Digital Camera, Brown

Reviews

This has to be the best looking Dlux4 camera case, makes it even more fun to take the camera along. It comes with a nice hand strap which can be tucked inside, or hang it outside the case should you opt to leave the shoulder strap at home. I do wish it could fit a spare memory card or viewfinder but this case fits like a glove. If you take accessories, look elsewhere or just place those items in your pocket. Be warned, you'll smile every time you look at this rich leather case.

Spend the few extra bucks to accent your Leica D-Lux 4 with this carry case. A real piece of fine leather work. With proper care this case should last decades. The embossed "Leica" on the front is very distinctive. The leather strap is generous in length.

Absolutely delighted with this gorgeous leather carrying case. Excellent contruction and timeless style. Worth every penny.

The Leica Leather Carrying Case is the perfect fit for my Lecia D-Lux 4. It protects my favorite camera, while looking stylish and chic.

The case is as elegant as Leica camera. If you get a D-LUX 4, this case is the perfect match. Great stylish camera companion for street shots. You'll love it.

The Leica D-LUX 4 has a strikingly clear and classic design. This and the "reduction to the essentials" show the camera's genuine Leica lineage. The high-quality leather case in brown matches this purist design in both form and function.

We went on a cruise and at one of our island stops we swam with stingrays! We used this bag with our little Leica camera and got some great pix underwater of the stingrays. It was mildly cumbersome at first as you need to push the camera lens into place or else you get photos with a round edge from having the bag in the image. This is easy to overcome and is well worth your efforts!

Photographer's Guide to the Leica D-Lux 4: Getting the Most from Leica's Compact Digital Camera Photographer's Guide to the Leica D-Lux 4: Getting the Most from Leica's Compact Digital Camera

I wanted a good point and shoot for those times when too much camera equipment (DSLR w/lenses) would be in the way. After much research, I decided on the Lumix lx3 (country cousin to the Leica D-Lux 4), and to my suprise, received one as a birthday gift. It is a beautiful little gem w/a Leica lense. However, the instruction book is a nightmare to comprehend. I was so frustrated that I went on line asking if anyone knew of an adjunt /attendnat book to asist me. BINGO! I located a reference to Alexander S. White's book, PHOTOGRAPHER'S GUIDE TO THE LEICA D-LUX 4, in a review of the Lica camera. As the two cameras are identical (well almost)I ordered the book. I promise that if you purchase this great little book, you will enjoy your cameras even more than you do presently. I have a library stocked with just about every instruction and guide book for each Canon camera I have owned and presently own. Mr White's book is on a par with the best of these. The highest praise to ths author and his very well written book is to say that it reads as if my father had written it. He was a great amature photographer and taught me (over 40 yrs ago) the the love of this hobby...step by step. Cheers to Mr. White for a job well done.

A must for owners of the Leica D-Lux 4.The only way to understand all the features of this camera.Fully understandable and invaluable.

This manual covers all of those things Leica vaguly explains in their manual and introduces fatures not covered by Leica. If you want to get the most from your Leica D-Lux 4 read this book. The book is well written in a none technical manner.

The documentation that was included with my newly purchased Lumix LX3 fell somewhere between vague and incomprehensible. When I found this book on Amazon I figured it couldn't be any worse. If Leica and Panasonic were smart they would include the book with the camera purchase. It has unlocked the full potential of the camera to me. I went from ambivalence to real enthusiasm for this wonderful pocket-able camera. The book is well written. It is clear and precise and actually corrects errors in the manufacturers documentation as well as describing features not included in the OEM manual. If you buy either the Leica or the Panasonic Lumix LX3, BUY THIS BOOK.

If you wearied by the unmemorable, often indecipherable, explanations (bordering on gibberish in telegram style) in the Leica D-Lux 4 manual, buy this plain-English, easily understood book. As cameras get more electronically complex and the routines for manipulating controls and menus become more arbitrary and unmemorable, camera manuals have degenerated into mere aids to the memory of people who already know how a camera works -- rather than clear explanations for the new buyer who does not yet know. There's a lot of potential lurking in the circuitry of this tiny, capable camera, but you'd never know it (and likely will never find it) from the way Leica's techno-weenies have written things up. If you spent all that money on the camera, spend a few dollars more to unlock its potential. You won't be sorry.Leica D-Lux 4 Digital Camera (Black)

Average Rating:

The Leica D-Lux 4 is one of the most capable and versatile digital cameras of all the "point-and-shoot" models currently available. However, its profusion of menus and controls and its ability to perform so many photographic functions, coupled with a user's manual that can be hard to decipher, have led to frustration for some photographers in learning how to use the camera to its full potential...

Leica M Digital Photography: M8/M8.2 (Lark Photography Book) Leica M Digital Photography: M8/M8.2 (Lark Photography Book)

Reviews

Brian Bower, a Fellow and Past President of the Royal Photographic Society, is a true master of the Leica. He has already proved this with his books on Leica film cameras, both reflex (R) and rangefinder (M). But this is his first book on digital photography and it is superb. It shows how to get the best from the Leica M8 & M8.2, and the matchless lenses which accompany these cameras. Amateurs, students and photographers, young and old, will relish the clear and concise text with its wealth of Leica wisdom based on first hand experience. Pros will find it an invaluable reference source. The book covers the background to Leica, the features of the camera, its lenses and accessories. But I urge readers to turn to Chapter 10 - ACHIEVING BEST IMAGE QUALITY. Brian Bower knows how to do this and his superb illustrations prove it. If you own a Leica, this book is a must. If you aspire to own the camera, then the briefest glance at the book will convince you. Brian's mix of enthusiasm and sheer technical know how is irresistible and his book will be welcomed by Leica lovers everywhere.

Nope, not worth it. I was hoping for a compendium that would teach me how to extract the most from this delightful camera. This book just hits the high points, just barely. A better choice is the Leica M: Advanced Photo School (A Lark Photography Book) by Gunter Osterloh. It's a film camera book, but it really tells the "what is" about Leica M rangefinders.

I found this book to be helpful in many respects, most of which involved re-stating things I probably already knew but hadn't read in a while. As to the M8, which I own, this book is my first beyond the users manual. Overall, I felt it was well worth the price.

I found this to be a great book, Im pretty new to Leica so any and all information is useful. I have the M8.2, and yes the book really expands on the instruction book provided, but it does provide a little more insight, some personal comments and some historical data - very helpful

I generally don't make the effort to comment on products that I have bought through amazon, but this book is so pointless that I felt it important to do -- I echo the other 1-star reviews here -- half of this book says less about the M8/8.2 than the free online owner's manual, and the other half reads like a sales brochure for leica-brand accessories -- much more useful to merely search online for free information about the M8/8.2 -- utterly pointless and a complete waste of money

Alpen 20x50 Waterproof Mini-Spotting Scope Alpen 20x50 Waterproof Mini-Spotting Scope

Reviews

I bought this scope because it is very small and because of the good reviews that it got. It is very small and it is easy to pack. The problem is that the magnification is weak and the field of view is limited. I took it to the range and tried to use it to sight in a 223 rifle. I could barely see the bullet holes. I ended up borrowing the spotting scope of the person next to me at the range. I have to say that I am disappointed. I will probably buy a more powerful scope with an upturned eye piece. This is a nice toy and it is very small but it is not a good spotting scope.

The Alpen 20x50 Waterproof Mini-Spotting Scope is great/quality product for a first time user like me. My advice for any user is please have patient with it and gentle tune the scope.

These work fine out to 50 yards but I can't see holes at 100 yards. Is there a nob to zoom in that I'm missing? I love the small size but I'll probably end up buying something stronger to see out to 100 yards. Edit: I used this again at the range with new safety glasses and I could see the holes at 100 yards, my old safety glasses must have done something to make it harder to see the holes.

Delivery time was earlier than expected and packaging was excellant. I can clearly see target hits out to 100 yards using .22 and .17 cal ammo. Optics are great. It comes with a very nice carrying case and cleaning cloth. The only downside was the tripod, which seems a little flimsy. All in all, I am extermely pleased with this purchase. Alpen 20x50 Waterproof Mini-Spotting Scope

I bought this spotting scope to be used at the shooting range. You can spend more, but not buy better.

Alpen Digital Camera Adapter for Spotting Scopes Alpen Digital Camera Adapter for Spotting Scopes

Reviews

This adapter is what it looks like - no surprises. Feels pretty sturdy (and heavy) and universal. There are many degrees of freedom. One of them allows you to pull the camera away in one motion, allowing you to use the scope alone - a useful feature. Some tightening knobs are hard to find (especially the one that holds the vertical slider), so expect some effort at learning all the operating details before becoming frustrated - it can be confusing at first. Read the manual first - it contains some important advices. But be mindful of the screw which holds the pad on which the scope is mounted - it tends to slide off if not tighten properly. I tried this adapter with Meade Redtail 60x77 scope and Canon A510 camera and got some nice pictures, although I got similarly good pictures before by simply holding the camera with my hands at scope's eye piece. The adapter is useful mostly when you need long exposure photography, like at night. Note that digiscoping works best with small objective lens cameras. If you have a large and heavy SLR and you're having a hard time shooting anything through the scope, it's probably not the adapter's fault. Try a smaller camera.

a little complicated but will get the camera in position as desired...slight bumps to the equipment causes the camera to become slightly misaligned with the eye-piece and must be carefully monitored
